Understanding culture

Culture. What is it? How do we recognise it? How does it shape us? We use the word a lot when talking about other places, but what about the culture we bring with us? In this course, we explore what culture is, what strategies we can use to learn about other cultures, and give you some tips on how to be culturally appropriate in a Cambodian context.

Intercultural capabilities have not only been recognised globally as a 21st century competency for students, but they are now embedded throughout many national curriculum frameworks. Through this course students learn what makes the fabric of culture, providing the foundation for students to develop intercultural capabilities through reflective practices while in Cambodia.

This course has curriculum links with the Australian Curriculum, providing the foundation for all Level 6 Intercultural understanding outcomes.

Jesus spent 30 years experiencing and learning Jewish culture and 3 years doing ministry and yet so often, we do it the other way around! Extra resources in this session explore what we can learn from Jesus’ approach to entering new places.

This course is only available through our education or mission streams.
